How We Work With Homeowners

Fernings works on private residential refurbishments, extensions and alterations where clear information and orderly delivery matter as much as the finish. We plan projects in detail, explain the scope in plain language and give you a realistic programme before work begins.

Our quotes are structured and itemised, so you can see what is included, what is provisional and where there are options. We make it clear which elements are fixed and which may change, so cost risks are visible from the outset rather than hidden in small print. If the scope changes, we treat it as a managed variation – priced, agreed and recorded – not something that appears on the final invoice without warning.

Transparency & The Client Portal

To keep you informed, we use a client portal as the central point for project information. This gives you access to:

  • Current programme and key dates
  • Approved scope of works and any agreed variations
  • Financial tracking against the original quote
  • Site updates, notes and photographs

Because everything sits in one place, you don’t need to piece together emails or messages to understand where the project stands or how costs have moved. You can see, at any point, what has been agreed, what has been spent and what remains, reducing the chance of last‑minute surprises.

Safety, Compliance & Assurance

Fernings is a member of the Federation of Master Builders and the Guild of Master Craftsmen. We carry full public liability and all-risks insurance, so both your existing property and the works are properly covered for the duration of the project.

We also discharge the contractor’s responsibilities under the CDM Regulations, helping you meet your legal duties as a domestic client. Risk assessments, method statements, inductions and site controls are part of standard practice, supporting safe, well‑managed work rather than being treated as an add‑on.

On site, you can expect a supervised, orderly environment, a team that treats the property with care, and a single point of contact responsible for day‑to‑day communication and decisions.
